In
the remote open savanna of the Mara, a female ostrich sits on a communal nest,
her eggs in the center. When we returned a week later the nest was gone. This
can only be a case of human poaching, as shell fragments would remain after
hatching or wild animal predation. Ostrich eggs are sold for up to $20 an egg.
