A
miraculous moment:
a leafcutter queen digs a new nest (inset at right) and, as
shown above in the laboratory, starts a new colony with a fragment of the
fungal garden which she brought with her in her mating flight from her natal
colony. She tends eggs she has just laid in the new garden.
